The work and the praise came from completely separate components of my life; I have a day job and also a spare-time avocation of writing. That's not to say that the day job is completely thankless, just that it's a steady source of stress without being a steady source of satisfaction. Lately, it has been unduly stressful and demanding. And, yes, pretty depressing.
