My iPod Says, Listen Up, Rockers!

Non-rock-and-roll types can move along ... nothing to see here on this post for you, sorry to say.

Okay, so if you're still here, and you dig heavy metal, and you haven't already checked out either of these bands, you SO super-owe it to yourself to do so.
Dethklok - Yes, it's a cartoon band, but that doesn't stop it from rocking.
Therion - Whose genius idea was it to put opera singers in metal? I'm pretty sure it was these guys. Have a listen to Lemuria/Sirius B if you want to hear mostly choral and opera singers cranking out on metal tunes, or listen to Gothic Kabbalah if you're more in the mood for rock vocals and some operatic bits thrown in.

On the other hand, if you're more of a retro type, go to amazon.com or iTunes and check out the Tornados.  I highly recommend "Love and Fury," "Ridin' the Wind," and "The Breeze and I." You can get more Tornados than you probably want to hear for $8.99, since they basically made one awesome album in 1962 and then spent 4 or 5 years repeating themselves. But at least half the stuff on any of their various compilations is great. By the way, don't confuse them with the Tornadoes, an American band that also did instrumental/surf music in the '60s, but with an "e" in their name.

Finally, everyone who's been dying to hear insanely ridiculous and occasionally naughty/gender-confused lyrics over hard rock music combined with dance/disco beats and synthesizers should rush right out and learn about The Electric Six.

I'm particularly fond of the song off Senor Smoke that goes, "Checkin' the appropriate box for a boy or girl ..."

: )
