The Decline and Fall of Pop Music 55

Oh for the days
when pop songs were five minutes long
and had great guitar hooks
and used their lyrics to tell a complete and completely believable story
with wry humor and linguistic flair
and broke in the middle for
a bass solo,
a keyboard solo,
AND
a guitar solo.
Diesel, where did you go?

55

(Youtube took the video down, but the song is here.)

Ciara,

Thanks!

Paisley,

Strangely, there's something liberating about having the specific word count to write in. I'm under no pressure to say all I want to say about a subject, because I know there's a limit to how much I can say. So the only important thing becomes saying something.

If that makes any sense.

G-Man,

Diesel is one of several one-hit wonders from that era that I love, another being the Vapors. They're one of those groups that just fell through the cracks after one moderate hit. Their whole album ("Watts in a Tank") is really good.

You have a great weekend yourself!

Love to all,

Devotee

Nice 55. I clicked on the video but Youtube took the video off for copyright violation.

Let the mediocrity begin! I agree!

Connie,

Thanks for letting me know. I found an mp3 of just the song to substitute in.

Betterman1,

Thanks for backing me up on this!

I am SO diggin' the Valley Girl song you left at my blog today.

As in I think if I were to make a Strumpet Soundtrack, this would have to be in there somewheres.

It was a good song to come home to.

Thank you, Your Devoness.

Thanks, Mike, and you're welcome, Strumpetastic One!

It's been a crazy week around my place, or I'd have commented back sooner.

Love,

Devotee

No worries.

Got back on the 55 train this week.

Stopped by to see if you had too.

Hope you are well, Devo-ness.

You are missed.
