It's more than just a show to them.

A philosophy.

Even a lifestyle.

Reality check!

Trekkies are ridiculous,

and it's okay to laugh.

Trekkers 55

They heard "Trekkie" being used as a perjorative. They didn't like being mocked.

Their response?

"I'm not a Trekkie. I'm a Trekker. Trekkie equals freak. Trekker equals fan."

They turned away from others like themselves (but moreso) to join the mocking mainstream that will always chuckle snidely anyway.

Me?

I'm a Trekkie.
